Welcome to Rutgers University Continuous Education In Second Life
Second Life® is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe.
From the moment you enter the World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.
You'll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow Residents. Because Residents retain intellectual property rights in their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other Residents.
The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the inworld unit of trade, the Linden™ dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden dollar exchanges.
Announcing the Rutgers Continuous Education First Annual Second Life Competition
Participate in our first annual competition within the Second Life Virtual World, where Rutgers Students are encouraged to be innovative and creative by developing simulations that could enhance the teaching of a specific skill, concept, or competency. Competitors are free to select from any discipline taught at Rutgers or elswhere.
Teams of up to three members, or individual competitors, will create exciting and interesting ways to promote and implement educational tools of their own design that can be used in virtual world applications for actual instruction. Demonstrations will be performed and judged in front of their peers and professors live in world, online, and taped for TV! Prizes will be awarded to the three teams or individuals judged as creating the best learning simulations in the Rutgers Second Life RUCE Island!
